The Chakras
CHAKRA:
A chakra is an energy center of the subtle body (your mental/psychic body, versus your physical body) that run along the spine, which we call the Sushumna Nadi (in Sanskrit). The Spine, or the Sushumna Nadi, houses the chakras and is the "highway" of information of your body to your brain. When Chakras are clogged and not open, you will feel imbalanced and out of harmony. Therefore, the flow of energy in the chakras are important to not only create and maintain balance in the body but also to the mind and spirit. RAINBOW CHAKRA MEDITATION (Used to rid the mind of nagging thoughts, emotions and ideas) Start by sitting in a comfortable seated position, either in a chair with your feet firmly on the floor, or in a supported cross-legged position (perhaps on a mediative cushion (http://www.myguruguide.com/yoga_shop/detail.asp?id=26) or blanket, with your knees supported. Keeping your eyes closed, begin at the base of the spine and resonate the color RED, proceed to the belly and resonate the color ORANGE, follow to the solar plexus (above belly, below ribs) and resonate YELLOW, at the heart center, resonate GREEN, at the throat center, resonate BLUE at the third eye (midpoint of the brain) resonate VIOLET. Envision whatever that is disturbing you to be attached to the crown of your head with a rope, umbilical cord, whatever makes sense to you. VISUALIZE YOURSELF SEVERING THE CORD (either with a knife, scissor, flame, make it personal). You may continue to practice this mediation whenever you feel uncomfortable and/or overwhelmed with your thoughts. Let me know what you think. Hari om om tat sat (may the light in me resonate and honor the light in you), Audrey This Chakra Rainbow Mediation was shared with fellow yogi and yoga instructor Tamara Page.
